I am currently in Chile where I’m gradually recovering from a weeks-long malady that reasserted itself following my arrival here barely 4 days ago—culminating in a brief emergency room visit for medical assistance and reassurance.
Over the past two days, as my healing process unfolds, I have found myself returning to my room every few hours for restorative bits of both meditative rest and dreamy sleep.
Late Saturday evening, in downtown Santiago, I fell asleep 21 stories above far-off, noisy-yet-welcoming sounds of city life, awakening to an early morning chorus of birds which sounded far different from the usual chorus back home.
Then, yesterday, (Sunday) afternoon brought me 2 hours west of Santiago to the tiny beach resort town of Punta del Tralca where I am attending the Focusing Weeklong Conference.
Here, the far-off city sounds have shifted to happy beach-goers during the day to rhythmic surf in the evening to seagulls laughing as they follow the waves crashing along the shore in the morning.
Such differing sounds. Yet, all reflect life. Each time I return to this place to pause, rest and heal, I take a moment to listen as I breathe in the sounds of grateful life around me.
